A New York community college serving four campus locations, the same seven months one year apart. Link click-through went from 1.18% to 3.06% and cost per link click fell 47%, after the creative stopped looking like advertising.

Visual Proof

Meta Ads Manager account totals for February to August 2025 and 2026, showing link clicks rising from 194,347 to 256,908 on half the impressions

Meta Ads Manager account totals, the same date range one year apart. 123 campaigns became 111, impressions halved, and link clicks rose from 194,347 to 256,908.

The Problem

The Ads Were Fine. That Was the Problem.

A blue banner across the top carrying the department name. A stock photograph of somebody in safety goggles. A phone number to call. A headline about industry-recognized certifications. Every one of those ads was approved by a committee, and not one of them was built for a person scrolling past at speed.

In 2025 that creative bought 16.5 million impressions at a frequency of 7.07. The same people, seven times each, from a small pool of ads. Link click-through was 1.18%. The budget was buying reach and calling it marketing.

Meanwhile the platform changed underneath it. Meta’s Andromeda retrieval system finished rolling out across most objectives in late 2025. It reads the creative first and infers who should see it, which makes advertiser-defined audiences suggestions rather than gates. Creative diversity quietly became the targeting lever.

What We Changed

We Made the Ads Stop Looking Like Ads

01

Native, Not Institutional

Handwriting. A text message thread. A phone in someone’s hand. A person at a kitchen table saying the thing out loud. Creative built to belong in the feed rather than to satisfy a brand guideline.

02

Many More Creatives in Market

Andromeda rewards variety, because variety is what it has to work with. The account went from a handful of well-produced assets to a continuously refreshed library across every campus and program.

03

One Message Per Person

Copy written for a specific life rather than a general audience. The parent, the career changer, the person who works nights, the person who was told this was not for them. Same institution, different conversation.

Four of the Ads That Did It

Four Meta ads: a thirty second student story, a handwritten sticky note, a meme about affording school, and a photograph of a man entering a small town post office

A thirty second student story, a handwritten note, a meme, and a man walking into a small town post office. The fourth produced 13.53% link click-through, the best in the account. One detail is blurred at the client’s preference.

The Result

Half the Impressions. A Third More Clicks.

29% less spend produced 62,561 more link clicks, at 47% lower cost per click, across 111 campaigns.

Cost Per Click Halved

Cost per link click fell 47% while total spend fell 29%. Less money, more traffic, from the same account and the same seven months of the year.

Click Rate Up 159%

Link click-through moved from 1.18% to 3.06% against a cross-platform median near 2.04%. The strongest single campaign reached 13.53%.

Frequency Down 36%

7.07 impressions per account fell to 4.51. Fewer repeat impressions on the same tired people, which is what happens when the creative library is deep enough to rotate.

Why It Worked

Meta Stopped Reading Your Targeting and Started Reading Your Ads.

Under the old model you described an audience and the platform went and found it. Under Andromeda the creative is the signal. A narrow, well-observed ad reaches the person it was written for because the system can tell who it was written for.

Which means the safest possible ad, the one everybody in the room approved, is now also the least targeted one. It describes nobody, so it matches nobody.

88% of Clicks Went to the Link

Link clicks were 74% of all clicks in 2025 and 88% in 2026. The engagement was not people idly tapping See More. They were leaving to go somewhere, which is the only click that has ever mattered.

Volume Is the New Targeting

More distinct creatives is not a production problem, it is a reach problem. The system needs raw material to match against, and an account running four ads has told it almost nothing.

The Feed Punishes Polish

The best performer in the account was a plain campaign built around life in a small town. It reached 13.53% click-through and produced 14,717 link clicks at the lowest cost per click in the account. Nothing about it looks expensive.

The Part That Got Worse

CPM rose 39%. Impressions are more expensive now. That is the trade: pay more for each impression, and let creative that actually works turn far more of them into clicks.

Still Running Four Ads and Calling It a Test?

Meta now reads your creative to decide who sees it. If everything in your account was approved by the same committee, you are targeting nobody in particular and paying full price for it. I build the creative libraries that fix that.

“The platform stopped rewarding the ad that looks the most like an ad. Most institutions have not noticed yet.”
